AnonyMouse_5677
Hi I am in the final year of a BEd course specialising in Early Childhood Studies. I am currently completing my final module, entitled The Early Years coordinator. I was wondering whether any of you take on this role (/Foundation Stage coordinator) within your school? And what you feel your job entails within your setting, both on a daily basis and ongoing management? how do you support your other collegues working in the foundation stage etc.? hope that all makes sense and that I have posted this in the right place. Thanks for you help Elfy x
AnonyMouse_79
Hi Elfy this is almost a how long is a piece of string question! If you havent read it you should get "The Foundation Stage Teacher in Action" by Margaret Edgington. You can find a review in the resourses section. I think a lot of the role in practise will be determined by the school and to a certain extent to the status that FS is given. In a small school, the role may not even exist as a distict role but be incorporated within another. As FS co-ord in a large multicultural infant school I managed a budget; managed admissions allocating children to classes after liaising with feeder nurseries; led a team of 10 teaching and support staff; planned and monitored the curriculum; moderated FSP; represented school where applicable with outside agencies; represented FS within school liaising with other teachers etc and determined the needs of FS. Each of these tasks had numerous other elements. FS is a great place to be, have fun!
