Recommended Posts

Can anyone give me some good ideas for a maths lesson, main focus is addition. I am having an observation by our local inspector who is really looking at differientiation.

Any ideas greatly welcome

Ive just made some ladybird game cards, which I used for addition.

I used dice and children had 2, threw one and gave ladbird spots on one side, then threw another and put spots on other side---then counted/added how mnay altogether.

You could differentiate by recording with number sentence or just putting a total. Children did this practically and later recorded it all by drawing the spots.

You could also work in pairs,

You can use the ladybirds for doubles too or number bonds.

If the weather is nice you could use the outside - make a simple target and get children to throw bean bags and add the total score. Could chalk different targets with different numbers according to different abilities, or ask higher ability to double their scores. Also recording at different levels - picture, tallies, formal sum.

Good luck.
