Fables With Recpetion

Does anyone have any good ideas for CD or KUW linked activities to do with fables? My mind it drawing a complete blank and the net seems just full of colouring sheets. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Could you explore musical instruments and decide which one is best suited to a particular character or make your own. The children could then play these as their character 'entered' the story. Make your own puppets and act out the fables; you could explore different ways of joining bits (legs, heads etc) onto your puppets so that they would move - which joining method provides the best means of movement: staples, tapes, treasury tags, sellotape, split pins... Look at reflections (the fable about the dog with the bone). Make printing tiles that explore a theme within a fable or an element of a character. The fable of the fox and the crane could lead into exploring mark-making with feathers and exploring different utensils to see which is most suitable for getting soup out of flat or tall containers. See if putting stones in a small amount of water will make the water level rise (the thirsty crow?). Build an alarm clock for the hare in 'The Hare and the Tortoise' or some super-whizzy machine that will allow the hare to catch the tortoise up! Build a 3D map out of plasticine that shows the landscape the hare and tortoise could have raced through. This could then be transferred to a pictorial representation and you could talk about the purposes of maps.

I expect you know it but there's a great book of fables called 'Aesop's Funky Fables' by Vivian French and Korky Paul (of Winnie the Witch fame). The ISBN number is 014056246X.

Thanks for the replies - some nice ideas - I like the one about the map/plan that the hare and tortoise took - the kids are really interested in the concept of maps and draw treasure maps all the time then go digging following their maps so this could be the way forward with them having to recall the journey and recreate it. thanks :)
