Bees!

We are having an science/art week this week and I am looking at bees! Any ideas on activities - anything at all?

I am going to get the children to make what a bee sees through its compound eye by using straws, they are then going to draw what they see. I am going to link my maths in by doing repeating patterns and in Literacy we are doing a big book all about the honeybee.

I am in need of inspiration!

Thanks.

How about making a bee book? The children could do yellow finger prints and later add legs with a black felt pen.

What about bees and zzzzz music/sound patterns?

Silly slogans -bees knees please

There's a rhme about a bee on your nose -someone will know it!

Honey biscuits/sandwiches

Bees in the hive, interactive display-how many in the hive/altogether

Sorry, these are probably not what you are looking for

How about making bees in creative area and hanging on string around classroom. Is there some sort of bee dance (bees waking, coing out of hive, looking for pollen, back to hive to deposit, maybe a sting on the way?) you can do to some 'buzzy'music? My brain is a bit out of action - to much report writing!

What do you suppose? rhyme:

What do you suppose?

A bee sat on my nose,

And then what do you think?

It gave me a wink.

And said

'I beg your pardon, I thought you were a garden!'

What about number rhymes e.g. Here is the bee hive or 12345 Honey Bees are in the hive?

Here is a Beehive

A fingerplay

Here is the beehive, where are the bees?

clench fist and bring out fingers quickly one by one

Hidden away were nobody sees

Watch and you will see them come out of their hives,

One, two, three, four, five,

Buzz, buzz, buzz.

Five Little Bees

One little bee blew and flew.

He met a friend, and that made two.

Two little bees, busy as could be--

Along came another and that made three.

Three little bees, wanted one more,

Found one soon and that made four.

Four little bees, going to the hive.

Spied their little brother, and that made five.

Five little bees working every hour--

Buzz away, bees, and find another flower.

One little bee blew and flew. He met a friend, and that made two.

Two little bees, busy as could be-- Along came another and that made three.

Three little bees, wanted one more, Found one soon and that made four.

Four little bees, going to the hive. Spied their little brother, and that made five.

Five little bees working every hour-- Buzz away, bees, and find another flower

Sooooo glad I don't work in your class! Bees/wasps and all things that buzz/sting are my BIGGEST fear! I've got goosebumps just reading through this :o

Here is the beehive, where are the bees?

Hidden away were nobody sees

Watch and you will see them come out of their hives,

One, two, three, four, five,

out into the sunshine out into the day

Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Winnie the Pooh and the bees!!!

We did bees for a week with some of the above rhymes, and triangle honey sandwiches too.

This rhyme went down well

Buzz buzz buzz,

I hear a bee,

buzz buzz buzz,

Honey for my tea

Honey's sweet and sticky, and hard to spread

Honey tastes delicious on my bread.

Buzz buzz buzz

I hear a bee

Buzz buzzz buzz,

honey for my tea

Listen to the flight of the bumble bee-you can hear it by looking for it on the web.

black and yellow stripe patterns
