AnonyMouse_3735 Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 We found this resource very useful, has dvd showing an opticians which children enjoyed copying as very few had actuall been to one, and we feel role play needs relate to something they know about , or experienced to make the most of it. Early Vision, Let's Play and Learn, Ourselves Theme Pack Sorry its at work so unable to give any ideas from it. Inge Quote
AnonyMouse_6021 Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Hi, not strictly to do with opticians but our children always love the magnifying glasses coming out Karrie Quote

Guest Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 A couple of the stories I have used with this topic are 'Johnny Get Some Glasses' and 'Mrs Honey's Glasses' Quote
AnonyMouse_3401 Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 We had an optician come and visit us, he was great and brought loads of freebies too. Sharon Quote
Guest Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 You could get some leaflets and things from your local opticians. We also had two copies of the eye chart; One at a short distance and another close by that the client could point to when being tested. When children are tested at the eye hospital they sometimes have an eye patch, so maybe a "pirate" patch? Have fun Rosetta Quote
Guest Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 when we had an opticians in our role play the local optician had a large box of childrens frames (without the glass in)that he lends out to local schools. there were other bits and pieces as well so it might be worth a try asking your local optician. the children loved walking around with the different glasses on and for some reason changed their voices to match the glasses they had on.
