Write Dance

I am interetsed in using write dance with our FS children on a regular basis. I have sent of for the FS version as we already have the other one which is more suited to KS1 I think.

Id love to hear from memebsr who are using it and how you organise it. Space is a definate issue in our classrooms so I dont think we could all do it at once, and also staffing is an issue too.

Marion are you using it? I may be able to nick a hall slot, outide is nearly as minscule as the classrooms, I was really wondering if it lends itself well to whole class work or smaller group work really? I know in the original video it was a whole class but not a very big one (ours are 30)

I have used the original programme but found it a little difficult for my EAL reception children. New nursery stuff sounds good.

I started using it last year and have used it with both large and small groups. We dont do formal PE lessons so I have access to the school hall every morning from the end of assembly until lunch. I had 27 reception aged children and 26 nursery so did it with 2 groups. I also used it with small target groups. I didnt have any difficulty using it with a whole class but thought that some children got more out of it in a group of 6 or 7.

 

This year I have also purchased Penpals for writing by Sue Palmer the F1 book also has a CD and suggests movements to match other music to develop both gross and fine motor control needed for writing. Its early days but I think it is quite easy to use. (The F2 book moves onto higher level skills)

We are using WD for four short sessions each week. I use one track in different ways - for example we might listen to the music and talk about it; tell a story based on the one in the book - but might include some of the class/school names; we then do movement based session - usually in the classroom or outside if we can rig up the cd player! then we use big paper (A3 at least) taped on the tables (could use walls!) to make pictures with chunky wax crayons in each hand ( if the children want to do this.... no obligation!) We might use it in the hall as a warm up and have used ribbons /scarves to move with.

 

I have a class of 20 and they love it. Once they are in the routine I use a blackboard and interactive white board with children taking turns to try these and use thick paint and big brushes on larger paper for groups
