Mathematical Development

Hope someone can help. Does anybody know, besides the Numeracy Strategy document....is there a list of hierarchical skills available anywhere for the different areas of mathematics? I've got a 'gifted' pupil in Reception who can already do addition of higher numbers, etc but need to make sure he has got all the relevant skills in place before 'stretching' him further in this area. I am aware of his needs in other areas of FS but am keen to foster his love of maths

Thanks in anticipation

Hi kermit, I can you are inundated with replies to that one.

Ill have a think as iim a bit tired and smelly (see the maoning minnie post) but can i just ask what eaxctlt his child can add and if you know how they do it (in ther head, by counting, couting on, vertically?) just helps to get a picture of what their mathemctil skill actually are as sometimes like with reading, they have just learnedd a process by rote without the underpinning knowldege or understanding.

He can add any single digit numbers together, he can also add any 2 digit number to a single digit number as he understood the idea of putting the big number in your head really quickly. He also applies this understanding to 'time' as he can work out how many more minutes to key parts of the day, how many 'hot dinner people' and sandwich people, If children are away he knows how many are present. He can recognise all 3 digit numbers, knows months of the year in order and can sequence them, days of the week. He can make new numbers for the 100 square when we hide them...phew!!!
