AnonyMouse_2157 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Hi all... I want to pick your brains if I may Got to do a display with our nursery for the main school entrance; the theme is maths through stories. We know lots of number rhymes but need a story set around maths (not the Hungry caterpillar as we have already done that). I would especially welcome ideas on shape, space or measures... Any ideas?
Guest Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 What about Rosie's walk for positional language. Liz x
Guest Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 What about "bear in a square" or "My mum and dad make me laugh" Good luck with the display.
AnonyMouse_4544 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Goldilocks and the three bears sorting by size? Jack and the beanstalk ........again measure Ten in the bed number
Guest DeborahF Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 What about Titch by Pat Hutchins - lots of size comparisons in there!
AnonyMouse_3401 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I know its not shape, space or measures but I love Kippers Toybox. Sharon
AnonyMouse_1999 Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Jasper's beanstalk is one of my favorites
AnonyMouse_2157 Posted September 27, 2006 Author Posted September 27, 2006 cheers me dears for the lovely ideas
Guest Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Baby Bear's quilt is good for talking about measure
AnonyMouse_2760 Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 I was going to suggest my mum and dad make me laugh too as there is lots of pattern work. What about a class collaboration of Kandiskys concentric circles - Quick to do and very effective ( you could always do a different shape
Guest Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Hiya - Here's a list of books that link well to maths: http://www.sparkleplus.co.uk/books/maths.html (This is just a useful list with links to Amazon if you want to buy them - I realy hope people don't mind me posting it, I just think it's helpful for you!). I also reccommend 'my mum and dad make me laugh' as mentioned abobe - it's a great book for pattern! SB:)
