When To Give Words?

Guest

Recommended Posts

Although some children learn the words as whole words before the sounds are secure I have tended to wait until that point is reached - just to keep the focus on sounds really. Once the child has got most of the sounds - so now for a lot of mine this year - I'll send first words home. I have got the first ones up on the door (I have them on bricks...) so some children read them on the way in/out already. :)

I send them out a few weeks into the first half term. We send home 5 at a time on a word string. As soon as they know these we change their string for the next 5.

Hi all,

I send them words right from the word go. We use JP so I send sound books as well as words. It worked last year and I'm doing it again this year. 90% of my children were able to read all Reception word by the end of the year.
