Culturally Inclusive Curriculum

Recommended Posts

Our school had an Inset day on this topic. We are all choosing a topic/theme to plan a six week block to deliver in late spring /summer. The rest of then school looked a the curriculum map and chse a theme but in fs we were a little overwhelmed because we didn't want to focus on a topic but wanted to pick something that was realistic and manageable. One of the EMA team is going to come in and plan with us in the new year and initially our idea was to focus on story BUT if anyone has been involved in this type of planning and have any plans that I could look at I would really appreciate your input

why not focus on the cultures and beliefs strand of KUW and sense of community in PSE - both these have direct links with children's understanding of cultural diversity and understanding and practitioners can develop the curriculum through guidance in "what the practitioner needs to do" so you have a ready made set of expectations. There is also guidance on pps 17 -19 in the FSCG and pps 28 -31 and 84 so you could really all get to grips with that as a focus?

Welcome also!

Welcome Moaning Minnie, :D

Can't really add anything except that I agree that inclusion is not a topic or theme, it can be looked at using these methods but to me for the FSC it is more about awareness, and about attitudes and is introduced / learnt in a holistic way across all aspects of the curriculum the environment and resources (including adults) combined.
