Guest DeborahF
We've been asked to get hold of some printed Makaton signs/symbols to use in the nursery with a little boy who has very delayed speech - we'll be encouraging him to make choices between two activities, etc. by showing him the signss, e.g. sand or water? Does anyone know where we can get these symbols from -any websites or anything? Many thanks

Guest
You can buy a programme called 'widgit' that creates signs that you type. Try: http://www.widgit.com/

AnonyMouse_3735
we usually get the signs from whoever asked us to introduce them.... If asked to use one system would suggest you use that one rather than another, it could be that consistency is the key and the signs can be used by lots of different places at once ( in our case, us, springboard, speech therapy, portage, parents, so need to be the same) If we cannot get a symbol we use a photograph as it is individual to the setting. If possible we display a photo with the sign to make them clearer, particularly when beginning. Inge
