Qca Extended Scale And The Foudation Stage

hi has anyone looked at how to cross reference the QCA extended scale and the stepping stones for foundation stage. for example children at QCA fluency level step 1 would be generally beige or blu for the stepping stones in the foundation stage profile!!

I'm not familiar with the extended scale that you refer to but if it is devised by QCA is there not reference material there too?

There's some guidance at the back of the FSp handbook (and the scales too if not seen before) Can't remember what it says off hand but may be of help.

So is the extended scale the language for EAL children?

Not sure what you mean are you referring to the Extended scales which are for children with EAL?

Hi Sazzy, welcome aboard and thanks for leaping in with your first post after joining!

 

I think like Marion you may be referring to the 'A language in common' document

(check it out here ), used to assess EAL children eg those newly arrived. We have a very high EAL/NAP population but don't use this assessment in FS, it is used from year 1 upwards. Perhaps you could tel us a little more about what you are being asked to do, we use only the foundation stage profile, so Im not sure that there is any need to cross referenced to this document?

Yes Mundia that's the document I meant it has a section with Extended scales if I remember rightly?

yes it does indeed, (called steps I think) we had some training on it in the dim and distant past, but I'm not sure of its usefulness over and above the FSP?
