AnonyMouse_2127
Today I went to Brinsbury College with a member of staff for a Quality Assurance Scheme Conference. There were two ladies from Lewisham giving a talk - Penny Cartwight and Kym Scott - they were so enthusiastic and informative. There is a book called A Place to Learn which I am definitely going to order. It contains lots of ideas to support staff in developing all areas of learning throughout the setting - indoors and out. Has anyone else got the book - if so what do you think of it? Sue J
Guest
I have the book and it's helped me enormously with setting up/improving my workshop areas. It is divided into lots of different sections for developing different area, e.g. graphics, mathmatics outside, KUW throughout the environment, etc. Gives advice on the best position for each area and the amount of space (ideally) the area needds. Lot's of tips on organising the area, some wonderful photographs and a checklist of the essential resources for each area plus suggested enhancements. I cannot endorse this book enough - it's absolutely fantastic. I have also recently purchased 'We can do it - practical foundations for independent learning' (Sally Fetherstone and Ros Bayley) which is another great book for improving your environment. Guest Wolfie
Yes, I've got it! A great book, easy to dip into, full of very practical suggestions and ideas and lots of colour photos to llok at. It splits the learning environment up inot all the different areas and talks about provision of resources, displays, organisation, adult support, etc. One of my better buys! Guest
I bought it about 12 months ago and think it is great. It was one of the reasons we changed to non topic based planning. I have used it for so many ideas, especially for permanent displays for number and language. It was money very well spent. I will have to take a look at the other one Mookie has recommended.
