Guest
Hi, was wondering if anyone can give me some ideas on good mathematical problem solving activities for 4 year olds? Any advice would be great Thanks!
Guest
On a maths course recently we were told that the children are problem solving when they play anyway. I have found that linking it to stories works well e.g. it's baby bear's birthday and mummy bear needs.... what can she do?
AnonyMouse_1027
Children problem solve in everything they do continually, but maths wise sorting, matching, volume and capacity are good ones
Guest
Have a look in the governments 'Problem solving' lunchbox that came out a couple of years ago. There are some ideas for Reception in there too. Liz x

Guest
Do you know where I can get hold of the problem solving lunchbox? Is it published by the dfes?
Guest
Yes - if you type in "Mathematical activities for the foundation stage" into google it will take you to the page. There are two booklets - one for nursery and one for reception. There is also this: http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/primary/p...roblem_solving/
