Songs About Homes / Houses

Recommended Posts

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe

The wise man built his house upon a rock

This is the house that Jack built

Here is the church, here is the steeple

This is The House

This is the house with the roof and the walls H-o-u-s-e.

This is the house with the ceiling and the floor. H-o-u-s-e.

With the windows on the side, and the door to get inside h-o-u-s-e. HOUSE!

Some People Live In

(Sung to: "The Old Grey Mare")

Some people live in, apartments

Live in apartments, live in apartments

Some people live in, apartments

That's where some people live.

Some people live in, mobile homes

Live in mobile homes, live in mobile homes

Some people live in, mobile homes

That's where some people live.

Some people live in, big houses

Live in big houses, live in big houses

Some people live in, big houses

That's where some people live.

Some people live in, little houses

Live in little houses, live in little houses

Some people live in, little houses

That's where some people live.

Homes

Here is a house for a robin (hold hands open)

Here is a hive for a bee (close hands together)

Here is a hole for a bunny (make a circle with hands)

Here is a home for me (point around)

Am not going to be much help, but I can remember part of a song that we used to sing when I was at primary school, and I loved it to bits.

Your thread sent happy memories flooding back to me - but I can only remember the first bit of the song.

It goes: Little boxes, little boxes and they're all made out of ticky tacky; Little boxes, little boxes and they all stand in a row.

It's a song about houses and how when you look at them from a distance they look like a row of boxes.

this is my little house

this is the door

the windows are shining

and so is the floor

outside theres a chimney pot

as tall as can be

with smoke that goes curling up

just come and see

or

i can build a house with a garden wall

a lottle sloping roof and a chimney tall

a great big door you can open wide

and two tiny little windows so i can peep inside

i can build a table just enough for two

two tiny little chairs one for me and you

so knock on the knocker and please come in

for my house is clean and tidy like a bright new pin

Shelley1 Pete Seeger sang this:

1. Little boxes on the hillside,

Little boxes made of ticky-tacky,

Little boxes, little boxes,

Little boxes, all the same.

There's a green one and a pink one

And a blue one and a yellow one

And they're all made out of ticky-tacky

And they all look just the same.

2. And the people in the houses

All go to the university,

And they all get put in boxes,

Little boxes, all the same.

And there's doctors and there's lawyers

And business executives,

And they're all made out of ticky-tacky

And they all look just the same.

3. And they all play on the golf-course,

And drink their Martini dry,

And they all have pretty children,

And the children go to school.

And the children go to summer camp

And then to the university,

And they all get put in boxes

And they all come out the same.

4. And the boys go into business,

And marry, and raise a family,

And they all get put in boxes,

Little boxes, all the same.

There's a green one and a pink one

And a blue one and a yellow one

And they're all made out of ticky-tacky

And they all look just the same.

Perhaps not for the children heh?

Tweenies -Gonna build a house

Shakin Stevens -This Ole House (showing my age now!)

This one is a finger rhyme that reinforces counting to 5 too-main actions in brackets:

3 purple elephants (wiggle 3 fingers)

a little pink mouse (wiggle thumb)

A black and white panda (make spectacles using fingers around botheyes)

A yellow wooden house ( both hands-make roof triangle shape)

I opened the door (open door action)

Of my yellow wooden house (repeat roof shape)

And said 'Come inside Panda' (beckoning action + make spectacles)

'Come inside mouse' (beckoning action + wiggle thumb)

The 3 purple elephants (wiggle 3 fingers) said 'What about us?' (shrug shoulders, hands out as if questioning)

'I'm sorry but you'll have to get the Number 5 bus!' (sound really sorry and show 5 fingers at end)

Here it is without the brackets so it looks a bit more simple:

3 purple elephants, a little pink mouse

A black and white panda,

A yellow wooden house,

I opened the door of my yellow wooden house,

And said 'Come inside Panda, Come inside Mouse'

The 3 purple elephants said, 'What about us?'

'I'm sorry but you'll have to get the number 5 bus!'

That's great kermit21. I'll make sure I learn it over half term. The kids will love it. I might even make some finger puppets for it.

Thanks to everyone else too for all your ideas.

Lynngo.
