working in my new tempory job has been interesting, ummm I am not that keen on it. Why you may ask? Getting to know the staff and children, trying to learn a new lanaguage :o and trying to get my head around everything. :( Oh and beening left to deal with creche ekkk trying to book children in for creche, take monies etc was ummm aggghhhhh, ok this bit will be turned into a critical incdent consitering I didn't fulyl understand the rules of booking creches i.e. only allowed creches at the same time each day for example late creches!!! xD  :(:(

Roll on next week and we will see what that will bring! xD

Umm Urdu with a little help from the staff who can speak it. xD Thats one of the things I don't like about it I cannot fully understand what the children are trying to convey to me. I talk back and ask them about the toy and most of the time I get a strange look. :o

The words I know are: :D

Alsam- alkum (ap) good morning

Gee - yes

Chup - be quiet

and that it at the moment.

Now if I could pick up the language quicker I would probuly understand more of what is going on. :(

Good luck with it. It is interesting though as this is how a child would be feeling in a setting that spoke no English, and the parents of that child.

Yes, I would look at this as a very positive experience - it gives you a real insight into how children with no English must feel when they enter a setting where their home language isn't spoken; use your knowledge of how effective non-verbal communication and gestures can be in communicating with the children and remember that they are learning as much about English from you as you are learning about Urdu from them!
