We've used cooked pasta (boiled with food colouring in the water); ice and then the usual bubbles; 'Brusho' etc. New ideas needed please!!! Guest Posted March 22, 2007 Share Posted March 22, 2007 What is Brusho? we have used cooked spagetti when a few strands are added to water it becomes worms or slimey fish!, add glitter or food colouring to the water, add small world items, add bubbles and a wisk. Guest Posted March 22, 2007 Share Posted March 22, 2007 I'm still thinking of alcohol from the top tips link and just thought those lovely assorted drinks coolers would be nice in the water tray...no alcohol though! Dollies and bathtime is popular; boats and people and the old favourite pouring and flooding!!! Just wondering Marion, is it special shaving foam you use? AnonyMouse_4544 Posted March 23, 2007 Share Posted March 23, 2007 We usually buy supermarkets own brand shaving foam (some do the sensitive) but usually end up popping out at lunchtime to buy extra from the local shop because its so popular and lots go down the sinks with frequent hand washing. AnonyMouse_468 Posted April 24, 2007 Share Posted April 24, 2007 We sometimes have "holey" (not holy!) bottles and containers in the water. I took some plastic drink bottles and containers of various sizes and using a heated metal skewer (held in the flame on the hob for a short while), melted small holes in the bottles in various configurations. The children have great fun filling the bottles, then watching how the water escapes in different ways from the different holes. Great fun, but can mean a very wet floor around the water tray as they don't always remember to hold the bottle over the tray whilst it is emptying. a good one for outside though. I have kept lots of plastic milk bottles and put holes in the lids...they liked this! They seem to need lots of toys to explore with so a tub trug next to the tray seems to do the trick. (very boring really but that's where they're at!! ...lots of opportunity to speak about filling/emptying etc etc etc! though) 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
AnonyMouse_9650 Posted October 15, 2013 Share Posted October 15, 2013 We sometimes use the florist water gel beads that expand when put into water with sea creatures and seaweed and pretend that the beads are perhaps sea creature eggs to encourage the children to talk about what might come out of the "eggs" - adult supervision a must though as although they are non-toxic I wouldn't want the children to eat them. Have also used them as a "science" experiment as they are great for encouraging children to think about volume - a small pack fits into a tiny bottle before they are in the water and then have fun seeing whether they will all fit into the bottle once expanded.
