Resources For Family Learning Course

I'm running a few workshops next term for parents, all about making the most of the learning opportunities with your child that come about whilst going about everyday activities and chores. I spend the first hour with just the parents, chatting about the particular theme of the session, and then the children come through for the second hour and we do some activities and games based around that theme together.

I'm just about sorted but wondered if anyone out there has got any good ideas for activities/games that the parents and children could do together during the second pat of the session based on firstly "A Shopping Trip" and secondly "Using Environmental Print". I've got "The Shopping Basket" by John Burningham and the shopping trolley game by Orchard Toys for the "Shopping" session and had thought of making a simple lotto game using signs and symbols from the environment for the "Environmental Print" session but have now come a bit unstuck - I want to make it a bit more exciting than that!

Any good ideas out there? :)

I know that this is probably quite obvious, but aren't you going to do role play with the children and parents for the shopping trip? So much can be done with that, depending on the ages of the children . This does sound loads of fun though. What are the children doing in the first hour?

Yes, role play is on my list! For the first hour, some of the children are in nursery - if they have an afternoon place - the others are in a creche.
