Guest Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Hi there, after two weeks of not thinking about school, my brain is now in sunday evening mode; PLANNING!! introducing my new topic ' animals,' tomorrow and beginning with looking at our pets. I thought it wuld be nice to make a class pictogram about most popular pet??? I have a class of Y1/YR; how is it best to differenentiate pictograms at this level? do I need to? thought we would do it as a whole class then maybe my more able could find out the most popular pet in another class?????would a sorting activity be better for my younger ones???? e.g. sorting animals in a tray with 2, 4, 6 legs???? has anyone got a pictogram to share or best ideas at this late stage in the evening!!!! Cheers guys!!
AnonyMouse_4544 Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 You could do a whole class R/Y1 pictogram of favourite pets and differentiate by asking the Y1 questions like how many people have a cat? do more people have cats than have dogs? while keeping receptions questions simpler such as what pet do most/least people have? I think the sorting activity would be fine if you have plenty of model animals for them to use and the legs are clearly visible. I did it once with a model of a dog lying down and child was convinced it only had 3 legs
Guest Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 cheers for that, I think I will do it as a whole class and then possibly ask my Year ones to go and do a pet survey with children in next class. just thinking not sure if I have lots of animals we could sort but will check in the morning. if not we could sort by colour I guess, think i have some coloured animal counters somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks for your reply!!!
AnonyMouse_4544 Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I tried it once with pictures and the children found it really difficult to say how many legs even though they could quite happily tell me on the carpet without any clues.
