AnonyMouse_3735
we have just spent a lovely afternoon with a local school in their FSU which is mixed FS2 and KS1. The children not yet ready for KS1 remain for up to a year. we send several children to them each year and they invited all settings to come and visit today to see how the children have progressed over the last year and spend some time with them. Apparantly we were the only one to go, they were worried no one would turn up at all.. we were made very welcome, joined in , and children were so keen to show us their learning diaries and see us again. It has been a well worthwhile visit and hope that it will happen again next year. we now look forward to their visit to us in July to meet the children moving on to them. had one school visit already and they have given us a paper bag with a handle to decorate with the child, who then takes it home at end of term, with a letter asking parents to help child find 1 item at home to put in it and take to school in september where they can talk about it. Not seen this one before, anyone else have links which follow child through settings? Inge
Guest Wolfie
Inge, those school links are to die for!!! It sounds as though a really good, practical appoach to easing the transition from nursery to school has been carefully thought out and implemented - and what a lovely chance for you to catch up with all the children who left last year as well. It sounds as though you had a great time, I'm sure plenty of practitioners will feel really envious when they read your post!
Guest
Sounds lovely Inge, I like the paper bag idea. We are due to visit our local primary on Friday, I hope last years children haven't forgotten me yet Peggy

AnonyMouse_2157
our reception childrena re given a blank stamped addressed postcard and asked to write to the new Year 1 teacher while on their summer break. The postcards are then used as a taking point and class display when the child returns to their new class in September. For those that dont send the postcard back they have the opportunity of writing one when they come back to school

For those that dont send the postcard back they have the opportunity of writing one when they come back to school And one thing we're going to do with the children who will leave us at the end of this term is give them (or their parent!) a stamped, addressed postcard to send back to us telling us all about their new school. We hope this will strengthen the links between children that have left, and their friends who will join them next term and therefore make the transition easier for the younger children.
