  9. Quick bites of Animal Welfare - fun and easy to do During these strange times the RSPCA prevention and education team is aiming to provide teachers, parents and carers with engaging activities that will get young people thinking and debating animal issues. Learning new things is always fun and it is good to take the focus off ourselves and explore topics that could really change things for the better for both animals and the planet. There is a lot more to think about than you would imagine - dip into some of these suggested activities and resources, you'll be surprised what little changes we could make to improve the lives of animals. Find all the details here https://education.rspca.org.uk/home-resources?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIoJaD45bq6AIVV-DtCh1gdAckEAAYAiAAEgJ1gvD_BwE
  10. For as long as schools are closed, we're open. Right now, kids everywhere can instantly stream an incredible collection of stories, including titles across six different languages, that will help them continue dreaming, learning, and just being kids. All stories are free to stream on your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet. Explore the collection, select a title and start listening. - find the link here https://stories.audible.com/start-listen
  11. My brilliantly talented colleague Kat who has been trying to teach us all to draw has created this video tutorial to teach children (and grownups) how to draw a dinosaur: Feel free to share it with anyone and everyone and if you want to share your dinosaurs here when you have done them be great to see them As soon as the next one is available I will share that too.
  12. This is fabulous! I definitely recommend watching this. Each Thursday, at 4pm on Facebook, Julia Donaldson will be singing one of her songs or reading a story. Afterwards, she is then joined by the illustrator of the book. This week's was of Julia and her husband singing the most joyful version of her story 'A Squash and a Squeeze'. Then the clip went to Axel Scheffler who demonstrated how he drew the animals to illustrate the story. I loved this so much I watched it three times Next week, she is sharing her new book 'What the ladybird heard at the seaside' and will be joined by the illustrator Lydia Monks Incase the link doesn't work, search The Gruffalo on Facebook and hopefully you'll find it.
  13. Axel Scheffler says: Follow this link to download the book- although aimed at Primary school children, I think if used carefully, it would be suitable for younger children too: https://axelscheffler.com/books-for-older-children/coronavirus

  17. Hi This is a real tricky one isn't it as part of the reason for furloughed staff to keep in touch with the children/families is about maintaining relationships with them while staff and children have to be apart. We at the FSF have been emailing all sorts of people in government offices trying to get a definitive answer and if we do we will post it for sure. In the meantime this might be of help: https://www.eyalliance.org.uk/news/2020/04/government-confirms-furlough-flexibility The Early Years Alliance are really working hard to ensure that settings have flexibility and I am sure the question of continued contact will be answered eventually!
  18. Yes these resources are free from us to you and so feel free to share even if you are not using Tapestry Doing our best to help where we can
  19. I spoke to the product support team here who have been asked this in relation to reading stories to send via Tapestry and they said: There are exemptions to copyright for teaching purposes, more details on these can be found here. The thing which is unclear is whether they would apply in the situation of remote homeschooling, which for the entire country is obviously unprecedented, but if a case came up it seems unlikely that a court would rule against schools and children in the current situation. We feel that as long as you are uploading your videos to a private educational focused platform (such as Tapestry) and not Facebook or Youtube, you have valid educational reasons for sharing them, and aren't actively trying to profit from the works you are sharing, then it's unlikely any action would be taken against you. We personally feel that the benefits of sharing stories with children at the moment outweigh the small risk of legal action against the school, but if you are concerned about this I would recommend that you seek advice from your local authority or independent legal advisor before proceeding. One other option is that a few authors have made it publicly known that they are offering free licences to read their stories during the lockdown, so it may be worth investigating that. I'm sorry that I can't give you an entirely definitive answer, but do let us know if you need anything else! Hope that helps Sue
  20. In my defence re the c word these are highly unusual circumstances and I would like to not be using this new C word at all in any of it's forms Covid or Coronavirus!!!! I was mildly amused by a new word today that a collegue used when referring to someone not abiding by the new lockdown rules as a Covidiot which I thought was quite good and concise! As for your son and his keyboard.....I think the rush to set folk up for home working has meant that many office electricals are very hard to come by. We were quite lucky as we all have laptops that we use in the office and of course most days/nights they stay in the office and we have access to shared drives so many people can access documents so that has meant for the FSF/Tapestry team we have all be able to up sticks quite easily. First class stamps.....well I suspect there will be lots of people posting things that they might usually just pop round to deliver so hang on to them lol
  21. Hello all For me this is the beginning of week 3 of working from home and I am adjusting to the new normal...whatever normal is at the moment. So a bit of nonsense! My hubby and I are both working from home so we are trying to make sure that at the weekends we do something other than work and walk the dog! We have a bit of a tradition at Christmas to have a family jigsaw on the go so my daughter suggested we do a jigsaw. We had one from the in-laws and I dragged a Christmas one out of the loft but I thought "I know I will order a couple on the internet" Well that seemed sooooo simple but guess what....the rest of the UK....probably world have decided doing a jigsaw is a good way to pass the time and after visiting a gazillion sites I have managed to order 3....due to be delivered sometime this week....and or the end of April. Usually a quick trip to the charity shop or toy shop in town and Bobs your Uncle!!! So what things have you been looking for (apart from hand sanitizer and loo roll) that you have tried to get but have had real difficulties currently....maybe things like my jigsaw that I thought would be soooo easy to get lol Be safe one and all Sue x
  22. Deodorant.....which you must use or people will be socially distancing even further away from you lol
  23. Hi Susan How lovely to hear from you and for letting us know what you are up to. Take care and you and yours Big virtual hugs Sue x
