  1. No sure what you mean, nothing changed for us. We had twice as many children, as expected, and put in a Joe Wicks exercise session, which worked well. As we rotate between cleaning/tidying and looking after the kids (my paperwork is done, CPD courses saved for when we have to close...), we are busy and the kids have variety.
  2. 8-5ish. Only a handful of children, the children of keyworkers like doctors etc. And Mondays are our quiet days anyway. So staff gets rotated with children, cleaning, paperwork and time off. We worked around our mealtimes as I thought we would and really just went with the children’s interests, without additional planning.
  3. This thread - minus the funding/term length discussion, and have only looked at the end - is so brighting up my evening! Hope I will remember it for next Friday after the first of these strange weeks...
  4. Yes, I think ‘slots’ are the way forward. Stick to an established or logical breakfast-snack-lunch-snack-tea pattern as required and fill in the blanks with smaller slots, following the children’s interests as much as possible. We’ll be starting this tomorrow and see how we get through the day, may have to revise for Tuesday 😬
  5. I really like the proforma/sheet! I don’t think all of the parts need to be filled in in writing, but it would certainly be worthwhile discussing them. I do agree there should be a written outcome though, and I can’t do a peer to peer observation without taking notes to refer back to. I also would like to choose my own focus for the observer, previously this has been given to us. While I understand that that can be necessary, I think my practice would improve more if I had someone look at a potential weakness. My favourite aspect is the one of trust. The notes on the observations I have previously done or were done on me were then collected by our manager, photocopied and handed to the all staff members. I don’t think this is conducive to observations becoming something normal. Not everyone liked that, as any criticism may not be as constructive as it should be. So I really like the suggested approach in the article, of just passing outcomes on to management unless there’s recognition of something positive. The learning comes from the discussion with the observer. It is definitely good to do it regularly, and different people doing it, so you get used to it and different aspects are covered.
