I’m sure I’m not alone in welcoming Gill Jones’ advice at the recent Nursery World exhibition at the London Business Design Centre recently. When asked about tracking, Ms Jones replied ‘Don’t let it overtake the world!’ The important things, she confirmed, are ‘being with children, talking to them, supporting them. Don’t get too hung up on the tracking side’. Music to my ears. She encouraged us to ask ourselves ‘Is it more important that I keep playing with this child, rather than taking a photo of what they’ve been doing?’ Ms Jones reminded us that ‘Ofsted inspectors aren’t interested in seeing lots of observations and assessments.’ They want to know what staff are …

Hi We have had the call. Ofsted called me (chair) as couldn't get though to the setting, I said we do not have someone monitoring phones and maybe best to try at 2.45... they understood and said they would keep trying the manager. Fast forward as I collect my daughter I asked the manager did she get the call. She had no idea! The phone is in the kitchen and i guess difficult to hear. She did speak to the inspector eventually. Typical timing...we have just had a skip delivered (on the road outside) and had a good sort out recentlty. Staff member down tomorrow too. As the chair/nominate person and relatively un-experienced I am feeling very nervous.... …

Hello Just wondering if there is anyone here who is an inspector and who might give me some advice. Nothing that would cause conflict or alarm. Would have to be messaged though.

Hi folks! just had our Inspection Report and this may be a silly question.... but here goes anyway! I have recently gained EYT status but the report says “The manager has an early Years Degree”.... should I ask for a correction? Or am I being too picky? I’m just proud of passing!! many thanks x

I got the call that ofsted are visiting us on Monday at 12.30 Friday whilst at home one my day off. I popped into work yesterday, just to get all the paper work together required. I am now sat at home panicing I should be at work doing something. We had a staff meeting/trading day on the 17th in which we changed the routine. Put this in place last week, now I worried if we should continue with the new routine or revert to the old routine. Sorry for the ramble.

Hi Following a downgrading to RI inspection in June '15, and having had a complaint about it upheld by Ofsted and everything that entailed, plus our local EY's saying we should challenge Ofsted on our next inspection( I will not do this of course!) has anyone any advice about how these inspections go after a downgrade ? I expect the inspection anytime in the 11th month as it was an admin issue rather than child/practice is this sounding about right ? Thanks.

The London branch of The Ofsted Big Conversation held their meeting this week. Unfortunately FSF were unable to attend but we are pleased to be able to link you to the minutes of the meeting here: Ofsted Big Conversation Gill Jones from Ofsted asked particularly for details from providers with the following issues: Providers who are being asked by inspectors about their 'conditions of registration' Providers who are committee run who are having trouble with the time it takes to get clearance for new 'trustees' Hopefully this dialogue will help providers find the answers to questions that are frustrating them!

Hi All Do Ofsted still request to see your operational plan? I've seen conflicting info. I've been doing alot of reading of our documents lately and there are some updates needed. Last inspection was Jan 15. Our operaitional plan is fairly up to date apart from some staff changes which I have updated. Do I need to share with staff or put in a file? Thanks. This being chair business has become a full time (unpaid) job!

Hi I have recently decided for personal reasons to only open the Pre-school from 9am - 1pm (unusual I know as most setting are extending their hours in September), so I am both relieved to have finally made that decision but equally concerned about my parents - numbers etc. On top of all this I have raging toothache and I mean raging!!!! to say that I am not keen on dentists is an understatement. I hardly slept at all last night due to the pain. I managed to get an emergency appointment this morning and when I was sitting in the waiting room I received a voicemail from Ofsted - they are coming tomorrow morning. I phoned them back and yes the message was right, th…
