Hi all! We had Ofsted in today and they finish tomorrow. We are a maintained nursery class. They raised a couple of issues which I disagree with. So I am going to ask to speak to them again, but want ideas on what to say! If you agree that they have been harsh! They said we should have baselined already - children have been in for 11 days at most, and 6 at least, as we had a few start each day. I said we mostly have with a couple of areas left, which was why we had resources outside to assess physical development, and shape jigsaws out for SSM assessments! We have set up next steps for prime areas already, and have been settling class and teaching routines, e.g. a…

Hi We think some of our staff need a bit of a kick up the bum so are going to hold a Mocksted Inspection next week. Has anyone got a prompt sheet for a Mocksted - more so on the questions to ask and how to ask them as the observation and document checking bit we've sorted? If anyone has anyhing they would like to share I would be very grateful.

We had our inspection yesterday and we are very pleased with the outcome! Just wanted to give people the heads up. We were graded RI in December 2015 and all the info from our LA was that they would probably inspect us at about 11months but after i spoke to Ofsted about another matter and was told that they are trying to complete as many inspections as possible before the new cycle starts, i suspected they may come earlier and luckily we were ready. One thing that came up during the inspection just in general chat was that i was correct and they are trying to get lots done this month so this means that even settings with RI may be getting inspected before 6 months…

I registered in June 2014. So was thinking I might see Mrs O in the Autumn, however I have heard a nearby preschool, who registered around the same time, has just had theirs. Just wondered if anyone else has...

What are peoples recent experiences on timings to receive reports following inspection? Also where did they send them? I have experienced registered providers home address, registered company address, setting address and via email! Going away and want to make sure the report is seen before the 24 hr deadline! Would be interesting to hear whats happened with other settings. Thanks

Hi all, Just a quick question - Ofsted visited us 2 weeks ago and we got the preliminary report through 3 days afters. Its not published on the website yet, do we need to wait until that point before informing parents of our result?

I have been through a whole pile of reports that reflect 'Inadequate judgements' given to settings. I have looked to see where providers are letting themselves down and I have collated the results for you here. It would be a very useful self-evaluation exercise to go through the statements and make sure that your setting is not similarly falling short of requirements. Good luck! Let me know how you get on!

Helen has read over 100 Ofsted reports from settings which achieved 'Good' overall and has pulled out of them the recommendations for 'Leadership and Management' . These were the aspects of the provision that the inspector identified as contributing to a 'Good' judgement overall rather than an 'Outstanding' one. If you read the recommendations and reflect them against your own practice you will be able to see if there are any areas where you could improve what you do! Don't forget that if you do such an exercise as this you should include it (the process and any resulting actions) on your SEF (or whatever document you are using) as such reflection in itself is an indicato…

Here is the link to the collated results of the practitioners' experiences survey It was very interesting to read how the providers that had achieved 'Good' or 'Outstanding' judgements prepared themselves before the inspection.

In this part of our series about inspection I have been talking to Justine about how she carries out the joint observation during an inspection. We also discuss the leadership and management meeting. There are lots of helpful tips and ideas here!
