Inspector Came Yesterday!

Just to let you know that our inspector came yesterday for our education inspection and was really, really nice (unlike the care inspector we had back in March). At our feedback today she said that she thought we were wonderful, could not understand how we could be the same setting that only got a "satisfactory" for our care inspection in April. Although the outcome is confidential I can say that it couldn't have gone better! What a relief! I can enjoy Christmas now! Carolyn

What Does Ofsted Really Stand For?

For all those of you out there who like me are awaiting an OFSTED inspection in December - here's a bit of light relief. A friend (who is rather a word boffin) sent me this encouraging text Officiously Frustrating Sententious Tyrants Eternally Dithering (I had to look up sententious in the dictionary - it means "pompously moralising") I have been waiting for Ofsted since beginning of Nov. (hence the eternally dithering) Any alternatives you'd like to suggest? Carolyn

Hello all, I found this and thought you might like to read it.

This would be a good section for anyone who has already had a combined inspection to tell others about it.

School Nursery Inspections

My nursery will be inspected as part of the whole school inspection in the next few months- ie after sept. What should I be doing- seen to be doing? Could anyone who has been through the inspection process recently- ie as part of teh school one give me some information. What are they looking for? Do they check staff qualifications? I am qualified as NNEB and early years PGCE but rest of staff are not. I have a TA and an experiencend TA as the"nursery assistant" with no formal qualifications. School gets funding for 5 sessions for all children irrespective of the actual number of sessions attended. Will that be picked up as not providng 'value for money' Parents, how…

Hi, i am new to the forum, and am very glad that that i came across it, it is so full of information which I am finding useful already. i am hoping to start running a small pre-school, provided i get registered by ofsted, i am a bit nervous about the pending visit by the inspector, and do not know how to prepare for the interview, or what sort of questions they will ask from me. l have advertised in my local newsapaper for a suitable manager with NQV level 3, but the response has not been great. i have 2 applicants that might be suitable, but i am not sure whether the 2 years experience needed, should be post qualified, and should they also have supervisory experi…

When I hear the word Ofsted, I have an image of abject horror. I haven't been privy to an actual inspection even though I have been in Early Years for nearly 5 years, but everything I hear from anyone, it is all negative. I know all the whys and wherefores, but I need to write about the impact the Ofsted inspections have on us - the people that have to present our beliefs, ideals and real interactions with the children within the restrictions set by the governing bodies. Are we really worlds apart? If so, why? I have met two people recently that seem to be very ameniable, down to earth people, that were Ofsted Inspectors in a previous life. Is there anyone who…

Ofsted And Target Setting
by Guest- 4 replies

I teach a reception class in a two form entry school, there are 2 receptions in one room and I team teach. I have a question from our assessment co-ordinator at school who is trying to hold the head back from a return to the baseline assessment stuff, PIP's, that I thought we had escaped last year. She wants to know if formal target setting is necessary in the foundation stage ie. does ofsted need to see evidence of it though baseline assessment and predicted future SATS levels? If not on inspection how will they see evidence of children's learning? Will the accept our observations, profiles, children's work and talking to the children them? My colleague and I bot…
