Hi, having a bit of a panic, can anyone tell me, does Ofsted automatically inspect if a nursery gets a new manager? I did not think they did but was told today that they do - the nursery was last inspected in March of this year and recieved a 'good'.

Hi All, This is my first post here - seems like a great forum :-) We are in the early stages of planning our new nursery and I am trying to get a better idea of how the Registration Visit will work in our situation. My wife will be the Registered Person, but we will be employing a manager. Naturally, as the Registered Person, my wife will be fully vetted by O and will require a DBS. However, my question is this, at what point during the registration process will the Manager (and Practitioners) need to be in place? With O quoting 25 weeks for registration (and possibly longer judging by some posts on here!), it could get very expensive if we are required to…

Hello I am the manager of a large 93 place day Nursery in the CM3 area of Essex. Are there any outstanding settings in Essex that I could please visit to see how you do it. I don't mind travelling as to avoid being seen as "competition" but I would love to visit you all. You are all of course more than welcome to visit my setting as well. Please let me know. x

Hi All, I've been working for what feels like forever to try and get my dream nursery open. It's taking over a year of planning and a lot of money to get to where I am now. I just had a call that my Ofsted registration visit is going to be Monday!!! I am slightly terrified. Surely I've covered everything I need to cover and know everything I need to know but am really nervous as this is the moment my future gets decided. Has anyone had a registration visit recently and can give me any hints and tips about things Ofsted focused on? Any advice would be gratefully received. I HAVE to pass this registration visit.

Well it finally happened....The Ofsted Inspector arrived with her Senior Inspector who was Inspecting the Inspector who was inspecting me. (I am a Childminder of 7 years). They were both very nice and made me feel a little more at ease as I was scared to death!!! I thought I had everything and more. I certainly had more, they didn't like that. Less is more is what they meant. I had all observations, assessments and next steps for each child. Now this is the best bit, I use PRAMS for my assessments and 'next steps'. They had never heard of it. The 'next steps' generated by PRAMS was far too much and not sharply focused. OK, but I use these to know where I am goin…

Ofsted experience

So we had our very overdue inspection just before the holidays and so I thought I would jot a few thoughts down as I know I found it helpful when others wrote what had happened during their inspection. We were fortunate, and I am aware others here have not been, that she was a very nice Inspector who was Early years trained (hurrah) and was genuinely interested in the setting. She was with us all day. She was particularity complimentary about the outside spaces, including the mud kitchen and den areas where the children can bulid their own dens with natural resources. She was happy with our real house bricks (stating herself that children needed to learn risk...) and …

So, new Ofsted plans to leave it up to 30 months before a newly registered provider gets inspected.

Hello I have been discussing with my manager and colleagues how we can ensure that each practitioner knows the next steps for the children in their room. We know what they are, however, reading up on inspections has made me realise that maybe we need to put a system in place. Can anyone share their experience from inspections and how they monitored the children's learning and what your strategies are please? Thanks
