The ICO has issued guidance for schools and settings to consider when photos are being taken in school. This will be useful to have in mind when providers are preparing themselves for the GDPR that comes into effect at the end of May. You can read the advice here. The recommended good practice is as follows: "The DPA (Data Protection Act) is unlikely to apply in many cases where photographs are taken in schools and other educational institutions. Fear of breaching the provisions of the DPA should not be wrongly used to stop people taking photographs or videos which provide many with much pleasure. Where the DPA does apply, a common sense approach suggests th…

Is there any 'safeguarding' restrictions or guidance on using group photos in a child's LJ. I do't mean what people have / have not elected to do as a judgement call. But any specific published rules? I know some places cover faces of other chn. We use picture collage a lot for images and have many chn in the photos. I have never been told there is an issue/rules, but a new member of staff said we shouldn't be doing this so I want t check. Also, do you mention other children by name, or use initials only? Many thanks

A dad introduced us to his father in law today explaining that the fil will be collecting his child as dad would be going to India for 3 possibly 4 weeks. The deputy has told me I have too ask him about his travel plans; when he is going, how long for, why he's going and contact details of people he would be seeing. None of his children will be travelling him. She insists these are questions we now have to ask in accordance with Prevent Duty guidance. I know a school in Birmingham has spoken about introducing similar questions on forms for term time holidays but I didn't think it was statutory and I don't remember seeing it in the guidance either.

Perhaps it would be a useful link to include on your settings' newsletter/Facebook/Website/Twitter. Lack of awareness of grape choking hazard puts children at risk, say doctors
