Hi everyone, Im just doing a short essay for PGCE about the impact of an ECM outcome on teachers. I just wondered whether anyone could give me an idea of things that have changed for you, as your role as a teacher/early years practitioner since ECM came into force, so that ive got a starting point - and to be sure that im not barking up the wrong tree! Any help would be gratefully appreciated! lucie xx

Not sure if this is the best place (please feel free to move!) and equally not sure if it has already been posted (had a quick peek) New research has been published by some of the original EPPE team - Quality of Childcare Settings They have carried out new research on a 'millennium cohort' of children born between 2000 and 2002 and looked at the quality of childcare according to different settings, adult interaction, qualifications etc... Hi, we are a nursery school established for 30 years and are just about to embark on home visits for our children. A third of parents have taken up the offer and it has taken me 2 years as a new staff member to pursuade staff to give it a go. HAs anyone any advice to offer. We will visit in pairs, a teacher and nursery nurse (there are three teachers three nursery nurses so we will have planty of time in the first week to visit those that have requested) The safety aspect has been covered with our lone worker policy but the detail is still being worked on. Would appreciate advice on what has been tried, what works well, etc. looking forward to your replies.

A parent at nursery expressed concern that her daughter may end up being diagnosed with 'ADHD or something' because of the child's tendency to put toys and equipment into lines and to fold drawings and paintings. I explained that her daughter was merely working through what were called 'schemas' and that far from there being something wrong she was demonstrating normal development. Mom wasnt convinced so I said I would find her something which would help to explain what her daughter was doing. Problem is there are so many pages on schemas and Piaget and none seem very reader friendly. Has anyone got a simplified version of what a schema is?

finally - I've got to do woodwork with the children and it'has been fantastic. A queue of girls waitning to do it which I wasn't expecting and children all really into it. One member of staff has serious concerns still but most others are happy about it now. Next step - let the children access it as continuos provision. :
