I'm currently doing a research project into how gun play has changed over the years and whether it should be allowed in the pre school environment. If anyone has got any opinions or views on this I would really appreciate the input. Many Thanks Jane

Might seem a silly question but... Am very interested in Schemas but know very little. Wondered if anybody knows if there is a schema which is the opposite to enveloping ie uncovering or not liking being covered say in blankets/duvet? Have just ordered Chris Athey's book on from Amazon so might find something in there. It's just something I've been pondering and put my thoughts into words!

Have just been reading an online magazine about a new research project by the Institute for Public Policy Research. The headline was saying that low pay and status is hindering the development of the early years workforce. At first I thought "tell me the obvious why don't you?" However, when I looked at it more closely it became clear that they have actually talked to early years practitioners, and the report itself raises some interesting points and some challenges which they feel will help strengthen both the quality and the status of the sector. Comments from individuals give the report a very human feel - one person talking about a respected colleague who tra…

I'm trying to find "downloadable" research articles relating to Early Years Education as part of my assignment to analyse research methods. I have a hard copy of International Journal of Early Years Education, but don't like any of the subjects in that volume! I have found research sites, but those I have found are too too huge. I am particularly interested in pre-school practices, curriculum, etc. Anyone any ideas? Thanks!

Hi We're looking for a quote to explain to parents what 'learning through play' means. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Whilst fully endorsing the principle, personally I do not like the expression as I feel parents interpret it as - children are just playing. Whereas, we know that children learn best through play supported by caring and sensitive adults who extend their learning. Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I'm currently in my third year of an Early Childhood Studies degree and for the unit International perpectives on early childhood I have chose to focus upon the Reggio approach. It would be great if anyone knows of a setting that uses the reggio approach so I could see it in practice in the UK??? I am based in Somerset but am looking for somewhere anywhere in the south west!! Tried searching on the internet but no results, thought I would try here then give the local councils and early years advisors a call!! Many thanks Essc x

Do Schools Kill Creativity?

I can't decide where this thread should go and decided that this is probably the "best fit" category - feel free to move it somewhere more suitable if you want to! At a course on Friday, we watched this 20 minute presentation entitled "Do schools kill creativity" by Sir Ken Robinson. I'd never heard of him before but am now a No. 1 fan! If you've got a spare 20 minutes, PLEASE watch it, it'll really entertain you and make you think at the same time...his message is that creativity in young children is all too often "squashed" at the expense of teaching them "more important" academic subjects. I hope I've done the link properly, it's from YouTube. If I haven't …
