The head has agreed it would be useful for the Foundation Stage staff to look at a variety of settings so that we can develop our practice . Has anyone had any experience of visiting overseas settings? Would be very grateful for any advice and suggestions to destinations

Hi everyone! I have been reading these posts for some time but not managed to write any posts myself yet. I think this is a brilliant site. Have got some great ideas that have used back in the classroom. I have lots of ideas and questions to ask. But first need your advice on an issue not entirely professional. Our school has been told that we need to make a day where the children are not in school but staff are and we are to collaborate with another school. We have been thinking of ideas/ courses that would be appropriate for both sets of staff . It was suggested that we get together with a member of staff from the opposite school that does your co-ordinat…

Just after half term we have parents evening. I have a boy in my class who has come from a very formal learning school. He has obviously been used to lots of worksheets and has not yet grasped correct letter shape formation because, he was introduced to writing on a small scale far too early. Anyway, his mum thinks he is a super reader, which he is but he still lacks fluency when reading aloud. She also thinks he can write 2 to 3 sentences easily. She likes to complain and is always saying that he is not been challenged enough. He has only been with me for 7 weeks and i dont know how she knows if he is being challenged or not. I differentiate according to chns abilities b…

If so, would you be willing to fill in a quick & simple questionnaire for me? If so please find it atached to this post. I am really looking forward to hearing your views on this one!!!!

Parent_Obs_1_._sheet.docDear Colleagues, I am writing to ask for your help in a piece of research I am conducting as part of my studies in ECE. I appreciate that the holidays have begun and that time is precious. Your help would involve your own children and not your pupils. I can guarantee complete anonymity. Briefly, what I am looking at is children's engagement with environmental print (books, comics, posters, food packaging, signs, billboards, wallpaper, any form of print) in the home and outside of any setting they attend. It seems to me that pre-schoolers today are the most media-literate generation ever. The knowledge and experience they acquire in …

Unpaid Overtime

Hello everyone I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but here goes... I'm doing an assignment on how the 10 Year Strategy may (or may not) affect my teaching and subject area. Having downloaded the 2002/3 MORI Childcare and Early Years Workforce Survey, I found lots of interesting information about salaries, qualifications, recruitment and retention of staff. I want to talk about the amount of unpaid overtime which I think most of us in early years work. I'm lucky in that my boss pays for staff meetings, training and planning meetings - I know that lots of groups can't afford this luxury. However, inevitably I do a fair bit of work unpaid: …

Hi again, Im not sure if this is the right place but I hope you can help? I am currently investigating ways of persuading more men and minority ethnic groups to join the early years proffession particularly as teachers. can anyone point me in the direction of any research you are aware of or any strategies your colleges, schools or LEAs use to recruit from under represented groups; and how successful they have been? Any information apreciated. thanks.
