Osted Self Evaluation Form

Is anyone out there involved in completing the SEF for Primary Schools? I've been given the sections relevant to the FS and Personal Development and Well-Being to do, then all members of the management team will share input and discuss. It's good to see that Foundation looms so large in the form but it's a big job and I'm not sure how much detail they want. Anyone else got the same headache? Love J

Continuing the Learning Journey. Has anybody else received a copy of this document (it is very pink). If you haven't do not panic its on its way! EY co-ords are responsible for delivering the training in their school, so I was informed today. It is promoting the FS and suggesting that it is continued in Y1. Does anybody else have any info?

Hi everyone, I need some help again!!! I've been working really hard since the last time I wrote and have decided on the focus for my dissertation, thanks to all those who gave me ideas and encouragement. I've decided to research whether taking the play based philosophy of the FS upwards into Y1 sustain's children's motivation and interest in learning during the transition process and enables them to continue achieving. I have devised a questionnaire for RY and Y1 practitioners to help me find out about: current transition practices issues concerning practitioners practitioners views on taking the FS upwards into Y1 I would be very gratefu…

Hi everyone, I need help please!!!! I'm currently trying to decide what to do for my dissertation. I have just finished an assignment on evaluating the transition from reception to year 1 in my own setting so have already identified key issues of concern for parents, staff and children from research literature and my own research. I would like to build on this and am wondering if 'How continuity of practice can support learning and teaching during the transition from reception to year1' is a feasible research question and if so how do I go about researching it????? Any ideas or thoughts would be most welcome, including ideas for other aspects of the…

Stimulating Environment

The special needs co ordinator has just critisised my classroom for being too stimulating. I understand that some children with autism would find it so, but i do believe we have to provide an exciting and stimulating learning environment for the children. She hates hands on messy activities and i find that rather strange for a special needs teacher. Hands on multi sensory experiences lend themselves nicely for chn with learning difficulties. Just needed to get that off my chest.

I am just about to embark on my dissertaion for my early years degree. I've chosen the topic of whether children's television programmes help/hinder language development of pre school children. Anyones and everyones views, both good and bad would be welcomed on this and if anyone has any ideas for where I could look for any articles on the subject then they will be gratefully received. I've already scanned the cbbc and citv and ragdoll websites for general info. I know many people have their own views on this issue, both from a practitioner and parent point of view and those would be helpful to. Thanks in advance for any help. mobbsters

Hi, there has been a lot of stuff in the media lately concerned with fathers who are trying to get access to see their children. At my setting there are or have been children who, from looking at the child record sheets, have little or no contact with their dad's, while some forms have 'no information to dad' clearly written on. I wondered if these children are not having contact for reasons associated with perhapes domestic violence or abuse or whether it's merely that the mothers are being obstructive. I'm asking because my brother's wife has recently told him she wants a divorce and from that I started visiting the dads-uk site for advice and tips. It seems that there …

Can You Help?!

Hi! I wonder if anyone can help - I am currently studying for the Foundation Degree in Early Years and work in a school nursery. We have been asked to write a short researched piece (only 1500 words) about anything we choose relating to an aspect of Early Years education, but I am having real trouble in selecting a topic that isn't too broad! My thoughts have ranged from the benefits of outdoor play / the outdoor curriculum, to the recent topic of the FS Profile results. I have to be able to back up the topic with relevant evidence. If anyone has any ideas of a suitable topic I would be so grateful - I am starting to panic as I want to be able to enjoy some of …
