I know that 6 is a bit older than our Foundation Stage, but I've just read the booklet about this research that was sent into our school and it was really interesting, as the children in the other 2 countries don't start 'school' until 7, and they are treated at 6 much the same as our children are at 5. I don't know if anyone else has read it, but one of the things that really interested me was that only in England is there a focus on ability grouping young children, and it's quite resisted in Finland & Denmark as damaging to the children's self esteem. The emphasis is more on co-operative learning and bringing all the children on together. I wondered what …

I was trawling the TES boards, bored this morning with no work AGAIN and I came across this document on the possible introduction of a Foundation Phase in Wales which would cover all children from 0-7 with a greater emphasis on the kind of learning that nursery and reception children are experiencing atm. I think it sounds a great idea, more play in children's learning. I'm not from Wales but it would be interesting to see if this does happen there and what the rest of the UK makes of it To read it (well not all of it, I just skim read!) click on this link below Interesting document from Wales Let me know what you think

Boys And Expressive Arts
by Guest- 2 replies

Hello I am doing an expressive arts module and have found while doing activities that the boys although interested and willing only stay and join in for a short while (4 mins on average) compared to the girls who will stay and join in for as long as it takes. The activities I have been doing for my assignment so far include general art and craft (painting, glue etc and drama). I'm trying to find out if this is a gender issue or have I just been unlucky. The children involved are aged 3-4 years.
