Risk Assessment

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am relatively new to nursery- 1 term and have realised that no risk assessments have been carried out other than very informal daily checking eg no rubbish/ broken glass in the outdoor classroom. I don't know where to start.. I have read the article on risk assessment from 2005 but would really welcome the chance to look at another nursery's assessments if anyone had any that were easy to share...

Thankyou!

The HSE has a free publication called Five Steps to Risk Assessment which I used as a basis of our risk assessments. After that I sat down and wrote down all the things we actually checked each day. I felt although it was informal it did actually cover everything we needed to do. I laminated this sheet and then made a check sheet for staff to sign off on to evidence that those checks had been done each day. There is room to make comments on things that needed doing etc too. A RA needs to be simple enough to be understood by everyone and comprehensive enough to cover everything. It also needs to be specific to the setting/room so staff know what they should be checking for. You might find the informal checks are comprehensive and just need writing down to provide evidence if being done.

Hi

thanks for replying; I'll look for the 5 steps to assessment..

I have searched the forum but without success... Where else might I find examples?

We have one laminated we can tick with a dry wipe marker.

There are loads of full examples of risk assessments on her if you do a forum search, see 'search forum posts' at the top of the screen.
