Risk assessment

Recommended Posts

Hi Gemma

I think that looking at other's risk assessments is great for ideas and best practice.

If you are looking to make an exception to your ratios, I think this would generally be on an individual, case-by-case basis.

It may be worth writing a policy, showing what is stated in the EYFS, the reasons why you may consider an exception (e.g. staff sickness, child needs different days/hours at short notice, sibling attendance, overlapping hours to accommodate a child) and the factors you would consider in deciding whether the exception could be made (e.g. number of children in attendance, their ages and stages of development, your knowledge of the individual children and how they interact, availability of resources for sleeping, eating, etc.)

Then, for each case, you have a framework for an individual risk assessment.

This post from last month may be of interest:

I hope that's helpful.

Tim :-)
