  1. I wonder too. My granddaughter is 18mths old and until very recently i had her one day a week whilst Mummy is at work. Of course that has stopped until this is all over. We have been doing zoom and/or FaceTime and she has now realised that it really is Granny she sees on the screen. When i ask her where Teddy (or anything else) is off she trots and comes back and shows it to the screen. When one conversation was ending my son asked her "Have you got a kiss for Granny?" When she kissed and hugged my son's phone i didn't know whether to laugh or cry - bless her heart. Stay safe everyone
  2. I think it is a little unclear at the moment - seems to be conflicting advice. This is from the Early Years Alliance - watching their site for any updates! Whether early years providers can benefit from both the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme and ‘free entitlement funding’ Department for Education guidance for early years providers published on 24 March 2020 states: “Providers can access [the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme] while continuing to be paid the early entitlements funding via local authorities.” However, concerns have been raised following general guidance for all businesses published by HMRC on 26 March 2020 which states: “Where employers receive public funding for staff costs, and that funding is continuing, we expect employers to use that money to continue to pay staff in the usual fashion – and correspondingly not furlough them. This also applies to non-public sector employers who receive public funding for staff costs.” The Early Years Alliance is currently seeking urgent clarification from the Department for Education and the Treasury on both points, and will update the sector as soon as possible.
  3. Sending you huge hugs and well done for posting. You are not alone and i think we all have wobbles. I am wobbling with a daughter in law NHS worker and a son in the Police force. I have real empathy with you about grandchildren - my heart is breaking i am missing my 17mth old granddaughter and my 4 month old grandson so much. Thank goodness for FaceTime calls. Hang on in there we will all come through this by hook or by crook :-)
