  1. That is exactly what we are doing. We have 2 bubbles and have one toilet and basin for each bubble in the same bathroom area.
  2. We are also not going to invite in new starters until September. It simply would not allow the type of transition support and interaction between parents, child and staff that we usually encourage. I think it will be difficult enough for some of the regulars when they return.
  3. Yes they are currently furloughed and I am already getting questions about part furlough going forwards and how it will affect them financially. I really think some people think owners/managers are 'more in the know' whereas we usually only find things out late on a Friday night or a Sunday. I thought you could only furlough if work wasn't available, which it clearly is. It isn't in the 'spirit of things' and I can see other staff will be run ragged working with children and supporting those still at home. Come September if anyone has to reduce their hours due to falling numbers this might well be really significant.
  4. Thank you for your thoughts Anju and Finleysmaid. I have a further member of staff who doesn't want to work because it goes against her conscience (no one vulnerable at home) and she feels that as we are not involved in mandatory schooling we should not even be opening in spite of the latest advice/guidance. However staff have been asked to do alternative work cleaning and preparing the activities or to work from home and some are saying they don't want to do that either. We were going to ask them to keep in touch with non-returners via Zoom and do some online activities but they don't feel comfortable doing that. I do not feel that those who are working every day with the children will feel supported by the rest of the team if everyone gets their basic wage but some are not working at all.
  5. For those returning to work next week who have had staff on furlough, do you have many staff who do not feel it is safe enough for them to work in a bubble with children? I have some members of staff who are shielding vulnerable people at home and don't want to work in the setting. I don't think we will be able to furlough them for June as from this term we will only have our older fully funded children coming in. None of the private fee-paying children will be returning yet as parents want to keep them at home.
  6. I also thought about the rotation thing and possibly using my jetwasher with sterilizing solution but likewise we are worried about insurance given the new guidance. However children are most definitely seen to be using sandpits in Denmark.
  7. I was wondering what people's thoughts were on small individual sand trays for each individual child? Would this be possible with a small tray of sand and specific objects in it for that child only? What if the trays were labelled for each child with their own name/photo? We have had small trays of coloured sand in the past for mark-making activities and this along with water play often keeps children occupied for some time. We have 2 largish sandpits back and front but won't be using them.
  8. That is my worry too. I keep checking The Alliance website but they still just say that more information will be available soon. We have 7 so far who want to return. We are committee run and I am still waiting for a response from 2 committee members one way or another regarding whether their children will return. My committee have gone amazingly quiet during the lockdown.
  9. We have an experienced, but mature workforce. Many of us have built up immunity and dealt with the cold viruses that come along. However, Covid-19 is a complete unknown and I also feel very concerned for staff. One staff member always has the flu vaccine and has a vulnerable adult in her household. I cannot see it is right for us not to have PPE and I think we are going back too soon. Our staff have older, vulnerable parents too and it makes me feel we will never have the opportunity to see these family members as the risks will be too great for a long time as we mix with more people. Suddenly there will be too many bubbles mixing again. I just feel the plan is too much, too soon. Having said that we do all miss the children so much and are concerned about their welfare. There is no easy solution.
  10. We only have a fraction of paying fees for the summer term and virtually all children are either 2, 3 or 4 year old funding so it looks like we either have to pay full wage for people not working or make them redundant. I'm just trying to update my committee now in time for end of month payroll.
  11. Does this also now mean that if the majority or even all of staff wages are covered by funded fees staff cannot actually be furloughed at all and should be paid 100% of their normal wage?
