  1. Zigzag and Sunnyday I do hope your knees hear some good news/recover soon! I am on half-term as of today so have deliberately spent it being very very lazy with the odd nap or two in there. Our Ofsted report was published this week which was a huge relief - was terrified I was going to say something and invalidate it. My plans for the holiday include some serious house decluttering/cleaning. I am continuing work on my temperature blanket which I am really pleased with but have also just ordered various 'treats' for myself including a mini daffodil crochet kit and some yarn to make a pair of tardis socks for my nephew's birthday. I have never done colourwork before and the pattern is a bit odd so I will be slightly winging it!! I'm on the look out for film recommendations if anyone has one although I feel that a rewatch of Anne of Green Gables or Pride and Prejudice may be on the cards...
  2. Ok, I confess, it’s not going to be a school free Sunday - I can’t keep my eyes open let alone think! Ah well… next weekend!
  3. Hello all, I feel like I’ve not been here for ages. I do hope that those of you with ‘iffy knees’ begin to get some answers soon. I’m also fed up of mud - not rain so much but mud is grim! Last weekend we had a lovely 80th birthday celebration for my uncle in a very posh hotel I did just about manage to comport myself appropriately! Then on Monday Ofsted called so it has been a week of late nights and intense days! We have been expecting them for over a year so it was good to get it done. This weekend I am ‘regrouping’ - doing cleaning and cooking that hasn’t happened for a while. There is, of course, planning to be done for school which I am determined to get done today even if it means a late night so that I can have my first school free day since the 2nd January tomorrow! Right now though I am lying on the floor in front of the fire resting my eyes!
  4. Happy New Year to you all!
  5. Panders - I don’t but I might accidentally on purpose have bought 4 new winter books which should be arriving today… Sunnyday - so sorry to hear about your knee - lots of rest is definitely needed. As previously mentioned I am mostly avoiding schoolwork today. I am also heartily sick of this cough. My breathing wasn’t great before I started coughing now I can’t tell whether it’s worse or not. I have tried to see a doctor but no luck so far. Update - my books just arrived - now I have more procrastination reasons! I’ve read them all - they’re lovely!
  6. I am meant to be planning but… got sidetracked into making this for my winter library display.
  7. Thank you. I’d not thought about a sad lamp at all. The winter doesn’t generally bother me but recently we had a couple of those bitingly cold but gloriously clear days when I happened to get outside and it did make a real difference to how energised I felt even being poorly so definitely worth considering. PS Love the gingerbread man!
  8. Yeah, that’s not where you’d want water pouring from! Time with family was good but the cold I was coming down with at the end of last week isn’t going. Have taken so much paracetamol and am coughing so bits of me hurt. Today was going to be a work day but it isn’t. There is so much to do though (home as much as school). I’m sitting in front of the fire in a nest of chaos. I think I’m going to try to do 15 minutes of something just to make myself feel less overwhelmed by it all! I will be fine just feeling sorry for myself!
  9. And to you Sunnyday! I am on my first proper holiday day (was tying up loose ends yesterday) which is lovely although I have the same horrible cough/cold that others at school have had. I am though suddenly realising that Christmas is the day after tomorrow and I am SO unprepared. I just rang my mum to say - are you expecting me? Today needs to be mainly about cleaning and tidying because I wouldn't let anyone through the front door at the moment, let alone Santa! I will admit that a fair amount of stashing in the spare room is going to happen to be sorted next week. I also need to do a little bit of creating for presents that haven't yet arrived - I'm planning to print a photo of them and just present it nicely which I also need to do for my brother and sister's presents as they wanted money towards big things that they are planning to buy. I did have on my list of things to do making a gingerbread house and a wreath - they were things I added to my '50 things in my 50th year' list but they aren't going to happen before Christmas. Then I reminded myself that actually no one says either of them need to be a Christmas thing!
  10. I created a ‘library’ in a quiet space off my classroom. I am planning to update this autumn display to winter in the new year. Has anyone any favourite winter themed stories they’d recommend?
  11. I made it!
  12. Is it a mark of how tired I am that I read that and thought ‘but I’m not in it!’
  13. Thank you! I have a nativity on Monday (2 performances) and we are very overdue Ofsted so once it gets to 2.30pm we’re celebrating! We have a 2 week October half term break which I love but it does mean other holidays feel skewed. We started back in August, my niblings all started back the week after but they’ve finished this Friday and are back on the 4th January just like me!
  14. I do feel that we maybe need an artists rendition of Sunnyday’s collection of balaclavas - I wouldn’t want to repeat a pattern!
  15. It feels like about three years away but actually it’s next Wednesday!
  16. No snow for us just very very cold - it’s making the temperature blanket interesting though!
  17. Mousey I have been a governor for 13 years. I enjoy it but have reached the point where I want my time at home to be free from school! I have mooted stepping down but the school is expecting Ofsted and I also want to be there to support with that. busy week at school - quite a few ‘challenges’ in different ways - I tell myself it’s building resilience! 😉 We have a Christmas stay and play next week if anyone has any easily resource able ideas for activities/crafts I’d love to hear them. All the other classes have TAs who are getting their creative heads on whilst I need to focus on staffing! It’s hard not to feel overwhelmed at the moment! I need a week off just to catch up!
  18. I’m surprised that it exists in my small town! As my brother in law is Nepali it seemed fitting somehow.
  19. Well, I was meant to be watching my sister’s orchestra do their family concert which is always good fun and then my brother in law was going to cook tea after (Nepali!) but my dad’s car broke down on the way and I’ve just got home. Have decided to treat myself to Nepali take out instead!
  20. Oh Mousey, that is just brilliant! Congratulations!
  21. I don’t often make brownies but I do have a couple that I’ve made and taste tested before. Happy to share if you’d like Cait?
  22. Wow Cait! You were busy - those all look delicious!
  23. I love that shade of purple! we’ve had a couple of school open events this weekend. I am not feeling great - fighting off a cold I think so mostly curling up on the sofa watching old festive editions of Bake Off. Planning will be later…
  24. Ah bless you, I’m ok and I make the most of my holidays. Think of it like this - I couldn’t produce as much baking or crafting as I do if I worked all the time could I? How lovely, have a wonderful time! We have a new member of SLT this term who does get masses of non-contact time but even given that seems to have much more of a balance - I keep trying to find out her secret!
  25. I don’t know how to do it any more quickly though. All the things I do are genuinely on my TDL because they need to be, not because I think they would be nice to do. My body decided for me and I fell asleep shortly after writing that post. I haven’t got up particularly early either!
