  1. You can set each member of staff up with their own Key Children on Tapestry. You can then make Tapestry only show a staff member their own Key Children.

This can be really helpful for managing all the children on your account. For example, if specific staff members only observe and assess specific children, they will only see the children they need to see. If you are in a school, you may want to set up the class Teacher as the key person and assign them the children from their class.

Click here for the tutorial explaining how to change your Tapestry settings so that you only see key children.

Setting up key children can still be useful even if you want to be able to see all the children on your account as it acts as an organisation tool. It will help you to find a small set of children quickly and you will be able to filter the children on Tapestry by their Key worker in the page filters, analysis, and snapshot sections. This easy organisation of your children into their key worker groups will also help support your curriculum planning and help you and your staff to follow the children's learning patterns and experiences.

You will also be able to add your own key children to observations all in one go, rather than selecting each individually.

If you have already added staff members to Tapestry, then you can follow the steps below on how to assign key children to staff.

If you want to assign key children to staff as you add them to Tapestry then you can scroll down the tutorial, to about halfway, to see how you can assign them.

In both cases you will need to start off by signing into the browser version of Tapestry as a manager, clicking on your name and then going your Control Panel.

    name (empty).png

From there you will need to go to the Manage Staff section (1) and click on the ‘Manage Key Children’ button (2).

    1.png

This will take you a page where you can see a list of your staff members, underneath their names you can see if they already have key children assigned. To attach new children, you just need to click on the ‘Edit Relationships’ button.

    2.png

You will then see a pop-up box with a list of all your children’s names. To attach them you just need to select the key children from the boxes (1). If it's easier for you to select a whole group of children, you can use the 'Select all' button (2). You can also search for the child/re directly (3), or narrow down the list of children by using the tabs (4).

When you’re finished press the ‘Done’ button (5).

Please note, you will see children that are ‘enrolling’, as well as children that are active within this list. Children that are enrolling do not contribute to the number of active children on your account and you cannot use the full functionality of Tapestry with them e.g. add observations for them, but you can set up some basic information for them, such as fill in their All About Me. When you are ready to make enrolling children, you just need to follow the instructions in this tutorial

    3.5.png

You will then see these children appear under the staff member’s name (1). If a child is 'enrolling', they will be labelled as such (2).

Attaching key children when adding staff or by editing them individually

If you haven’t added staff to your account yet you can assign key children as part of the process of adding them. You can do this by clicking on the blue '+Add Staff Member' button at the top of the page (1).

You can get to the same page that that takes you to, but for an existing staff member by clicking on the 'Edit' button (2).

    5.png

That will take you to the page where you can change details about the staff member such as their name, email address, and password. If you scroll right to the bottom, you'll also see a section about key children. Simply click on the 'Attach new child' button to see a list of all the children at your setting.

    6.png

When you click on their name, they will be added to the staff member as a key child (1). If a child that has been linked is enrolling, they will be labelled as such (2). You can remove them again by clicking on the 'X' next to them (3).

You can add as many children as you would like, and you can add each child to as many different staff members as you like.

When you're happy with the list, press 'Save' (4).

    7.png

That will take you back to the Manage Staff section where you can see all the staff members at your setting. You should notice that the staff member you have just added/edited now has a box with the number of key children that they have next to their name (1). There will also be a message at the top confirming that the staff member has been updated (2).

So you should now be set up with key children for you or your staff members!

  2. Hi,

My colleague Joe is replying to your support ticket right now, but in short, we suspect that it is because the email address is already in use on your Tapestry (either as another relative or staff member) - you can use the same name as many times as you like, but the email address has to be unique for each user.

In regards to getting support from us, you're right in thinking the forum is one place to go, but it's better to use that for more general things like 'how do I do x, y, and z?'. Often other users can help you with those questions if we don't get there first!
Anything technical is better directed to tapestry.support@eyfs.info though - that way your query can be passed onto the developers a bit quicker, and we can ask you questions about things that are better kept to private conversations (e.g. specific account details like the email address of the user involved).

    Best wishes,
    Lauren

  3. There are a couple of known reasons for users to be repeatedly, and seemingly randomly, logged out of Tapestry.

    Multiple users on an account

The first, and most common, is when multiple people are logged into the same account. Please make sure every staff member has their own account with their own email address and password. Not only will this stop you from being kicked out whenever anyone else is using the account, but it will make knowing who has completed which observation a lot easier!

Please note that even if a staff member is just going through and checking observations, they will need their own account.

    Poor WiFi connection

In order to stay logged into Tapestry, you will need to be online. If your internet drops out, even for just a for a second or two, you will need to log back in. If you aren't changing the page a lot this might not be immediately obvious, but when you try to go to a different page, or save something you will be taken back to the log in screen.

    Caching issues

If you are finding that you are getting logged out whenever you try to complete an action, but there definitely isn't someone else trying to log into your account and your internet connection is fine, you might need to clear your cache. How to do this varies between browsers, but this guide has links to instructions for the most common ones. To find out which browser you're using click here.

    Proxy servers

Proxy servers do tend to interfere with the connection between you and Tapestry. If you know you have a proxy server, please open (or ask your IT technician to open) port 443.

If you would like any more details about this, (or if none of the above fixes have worked) please feel free to email us at  tapestry.support@eyfs.info.

  4. This tutorial will show you how to extend the time it takes your android device to time out, and thus the time you can be inactive for before you need to log back into the Tapestry app. I have based this tutorial on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, but all Android devices should follow a similar process.

On your home screen find and click on the 'Settings' icon.

    login1.png

Next select (1) the 'Display' tab, and then (2) 'Screen Timeout'.

    login2.png

Here you will be given a number of options for how long you want to leave it.

    login3.png

Once you have selected the one you want, you will either be given an option to press save/ok, or it will automatically accept the setting.

Here you will be given a number of options for how long you want to leave it. You can select 'Never' but bear in mind that if you put your device down without manually locking it, it will have a constantly lit screen and a logged in Tapestry account - this will make it both more tempting for people to pick up and play with, and zap your battery.

  6. Thanks for all the warm welcomes everyone! I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and to helping you out in any way I can!

I for one am quite happy with all the Matt's - It makes learning everyone's names a lot easier!
