  1. When I queried with funding if we could make this half term into an eleven week term and break up on the 27th this is the reply I received (it seemed so much simpler to stick as we are) In essence, yes you can do that, but problems arise such as if the child leaves you and goes to another setting in the Summer term as we will only pay for the weeks the child has attended, we would not allow you to still claim the extra week which you have used in advance. You need to keep very clear records of which children you are doing this for and you will need to amend the weeks for the term down to 13 for those children in the summer. If new children begin with you and you are closed for an extra week in Summer, then their funding should be 13 weeks for the term and parents need to be aware of that, however, if you are open for 14, those starting with you from 1st April should be allowed the 14 weeks. As the summer term is 14 weeks for a school term and we fund 14 weeks, your children will be down a week for the summer term instead of the Spring term. For the week that is unfunded you can invoice the parents.
  2. Of course, it would be too simple for all LEA to follow the same plan! It does mean our summer term is 14 weeks!😬
  3. There are ten funded weeks this term and we have already done six. Oh my god , you are making me panic now!😬. Look at my dates and tell me I am correct! 06/01/20 to 14/02/20 (6 weeks) 24/02/20 to 20/03/29 (4 weeks)
  4. A decent week for us as well. We only have two more weeks until we break up for Easter! 🤪.
  5. Oh my goodness! Nasty for you and miserable for him! I can cope with most things but not vomit!
  6. Thank you both so much for your replies, it’s much appreciated. I know I can always rely on sensible advice from you both x
  7. I have been looking at this screen and wondered about getting this? What do you think? This could then go around the chid as we change them, giving them some privacy from anyone using the bathroom and anyone in the playroom whilst still keeping the door open.
  8. I trust them completely and it’s only myself and my deputy who usually change anyway. It was mentioned by another staff member who said well you are not supposed to do that anymore. I think we can and the children have a right to dignity and privacy when being changed. But with Ofsted looming I thought it would be good to check what everyone else’s Good practice is.
  9. We are very limited for space in our bathroom and we have to change children on a changing mat on the floor, kind of in the doorway of the toilet and in front of the sinks. Not ideal I know, but it’s all we have. Currently if a child has a wet nappy or is sitting on the potty We do not shut the playroom door and other children can access the bathroom to use the other toilet and wash hands. If a child has a dirty nappy or pants, we shut the playroom door whilst the key person is changing them. At our staff meeting today a member of staff said they didn’t think we should be doing this anymore In light of the Vanessa George case. My thinking is that we are protecting the dignity of the child who is being changed. What are anyone else’s thoughts please.
  10. List of abbeviations and terms.pdf
  11. I will have a look around and se what I can find.
  12. I am shocked by this. Our children love dressing up and asking for music to be put on to dance to. I can see no safeguarding issue with this as the staff will be with the children and observing as normal! I think this is a very sad attitude from the manager.
  13. The week before half term I came down with the worst virus I think I have ever had. It completely knocked me off my feet, I started the week trying to work through it as I never take time off, but it just couldn’t be done. I have had two restful weeks and am almost ‘human’😲 but with a bit still lingering. I have spent a afternoon at work this week just fiddling with layout/resources etc. Also dipped in and out of paperwork as surely Ofsted will come sometime soon, I can’t stand the will they won’t they anymore! We were last inspected in 2014! Now my head is whirling on seeing if we can extend our opening hours without going bust! This is where I find conflict with being a committee run pre-school, the parents all want to Chuck their children in as many hours as possible and so will vote for that, so I am the one who has to look at uptake and finances and viability! I am sure they think I am the voice of doom and a spoilsport!
  14. Ha, ha the brain is going overtime! Nice end to half term😒
  15. Yes that’s what I thought. Thank you for clarifying.
  16. Help, I a, having a mental block. I have a two year old on two year funding who turns three on the 7th April. Would he receive his 30 hours then or have to wait until the Autumn term?
  17. I am just collating it all now to see if we can afford to offer part of the extended hours. It would be good to be seen to trying to meet the demands of the parents. But I am not prepared to put the setting at risk because of this! Watch this space....
  18. Our Ofsted registration states that we can only have four two year olds at one time. I have never queried this before, but why is this? Is it a space thing and is it something that can be changed? Sorry for all the questions but I am getting bombarded with demands from parents and just want to ensure my facts are correct.
  19. We don’t have a waiting list at all. I just don’t think that enough of our families would qualify for 30 hours funding. Last year we ran at a loss just on the 15 hour entitlement, although numbers have increased this year so we may break even. I just feel strongly that there is such a huge misunderstanding with the words ‘free entitlement’ and I understand that parents feel entitled but I am not prepared for our group to close trying to provide it.
  20. I have just received back the parent surveys that I sent out. As predicted they are all crying out for us to open five days a week. We used to open five mornings, then we were put under pressure from parents to open for two days and a morning (to make the 15 hours) which is what we have been doing for the last few years. I made the decision that with the numbers we have on roll (14) that to provide the 30 hours funding would not feasible. (I also don’t think we have many families that would qualify) Last year it was touch and go on the 15 hours that we could remain open. How do I explain to the parents that we just cannot afford to run at a loss which is what we would be doing if we opened 15 hours. It is making really anxious, I am sure they think I am just being difficult! And I want to be able to explain clearly in my response. Any advice would be most appreciated.
  21. Now we have to download and print everything ourselves!
  22. Yep, I remember that one but not under that nickname!
  23. I too remember the desirable learning outcomes but the Barrie book?, someone please enlighten us!
