  1. Happy Birthday Louby Lou, perfectly timed during half-term. Hope you have had a lovely day, and a good drink
  2. Desirable Learning Outcomes - certainly remember all that coming in. Very wet behind the ears about early years then! As you begin your 18th year - and look forward to coming of age well done all those who continue to keep the FSF inspirational and relevant to all of those working in the industry. Happy Birthday FSF.
  3. I have had some good news - family who have been in a London hospital since the birth of their daughter before Christmas ( apologies) are spending their very first night in their home with the baby, she was transferred to a local hospital yesterday (blue lights all the way!!) they all spent the night there and have now been told, although they continue to have a place there, they can have some "home leave". They live 5 minutes away from the hospital and we live 5 minutes away from it in the other direction. She is still very tiny, and has had to overcome so many obstacles, but now appears to be truly on her way. Just needs to put some weight on now.
  4. Oh I see, these are children already at your nursery and are going off to school nursery early. Just re-read your post, sorry, must try harder . Lots of schools may intimate that places can't be kept or they only have one intake per year I think Finleysmaid's idea would be very workable in your situation.
  5. While I can't say I practiced what I am about to say, but I feel if you really want to tackle this, you at least need to start charging a non returnable deposit if a child does not attend - check out your terms and conditions of LA funding to see if you are allowed to do this. Seems parents will always hedge their bets as far as a place at nurseries are concerned. Keep in touch with your parents on the list. Invite them in for play dates well before a child is due to start, build a relationship with them so that they at least feel guilty at leaving you in the lurch by not informing you earlier!
  6. Yes I tuned in Cant say I learnt anything I didn't already know or felt, but it's always good to hear our general views acknowledged.
  7. The Early Years Miracle? Analysis "The government spends billions on free early years education. The theory goes that this is good for children, their parents and society as a whole. But does the evidence stack up? Despite the policy's lofty intentions, Professor Alison Wolf discovers that the results aren’t at all what anyone expected." Sounds intriguing
  8. Obviously done something wrong - all day every time I go to view new content get the reply Oops can't take you to that page, how embarrassing! Anyone help me out there?
