  1. Some have said yes straight away. Some are worried that it's too soon. Some are very happy at home on 80% pay.
  2. When we closed on 27th March I felt like my heart broke. But this is even worse. I am trying to balance the children/staff thing like everyone else but can't bear the thought of what our lovely nursery will be like when (if) we return.
  3. Does anyone have any thoughts on children who attend more than one setting? Will you be asking parents to choose one or the other for now?
  4. Goodness I wasn't suggesting we all unfurlough and jump back in., or that I would put anyone at risk. Just that we (in my case) were never told to close, so I'm guessing we won't be told when to open. My LA send out a survey each week asking if we're open or closed but have never given any direction or advice on the situation.
  5. I think as we were never told to close, we can choose when it is safe and viable to open? Settings have either stayed open for children of keyworkers and vulnerable children, or made the decision to close, either because they didn't have enough children or staff to stay open, or because they decided it was safer to close.
  6. I'm paying 80% and claiming 40%. I intended to pay 100% but can't afford to now. All my staff were due a pay increase this month too but that now can't happen, only for the very few on living wage.
  7. I have somehow missed lots of this thread and just caught up (I've had that thing that sometimes happens where you can only see one or two new threads) We have had a week of keyworker children and vulnerable children and are numbers have gradually dwindled to the point that we have three children in. I had to make the decision to close which we will do at 6pm tomorrow. I feel like we put up a really good fight but it wasn't to be. All my staff will be furloughed. I am self-amployed so am awaiting the chancellor's announcement this afternoon. Such difficult, sad and stressful times. Socially distanced hugs to everyone.
  8. Yes, things look better now I think. Have just arrived at work to figure out staffing, having spent most of last week trying to figure out what to do about children. Onwards and upwards!
  9. Thanks finleysmaid. I think it was another social media rumour!
  10. If only one parent is a keyworker, they expect the other parent to stop work and care for the child/ren. Therefore they're not entitled to go to school or have childcare.
  11. If we close I won't be able to pay wages after this month. Funding is only proportion of our income. If we close we won't open again. The support offered isn't nearly enough and how could we repay loans if we're already flat broke. I'm fighting to stay open but fear the worst. I'm heartbroken.
  12. Is anyone planning to stay open? We have keyworkers' children, vulnerable children, those on CP plans etc. We are staying open to the bitter end - until I don't have enough staff or the army come and take me away. This ship isn't ready to sink yet! Anyone else doing the same?
  13. I have asked my LA repeatedly about guidance for charging fees, but had no response at all.
  14. Has anyone made a decision/plan about charging fee payers if you close? It's great that we'll all get the summer term's funding, but this still leaves us with a big shortfall and we would be unsustainable. We have never charged when we are closed - e.g.bank holidays, snow days etc. but I have to take a different approach now, but don't know what to do or what to tell parents. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. PS, sorry had to put this in Lounge/Golden time as everything else was "greyed out"
  15. I'm in exactly the same position as you nomski. It's so worrying.
  16. We haven't heard from the LA despite numerous emails. We would close if we lost our fee payers' income. I have had parents in tears this morning - everyone is so worried and sleep deprived, we're all emotional wrecks. My deputy and I have just had a big cry and feel better. She has been with me since we opened in 2004 and said "If we're going down, we'll all go together" and that just finished me off. I'm a problem-solver and a planner and I can't do either. I feel so helpless, but I'm so determined not to be beaten by this. Sending love to everyone on the forum. Keep you Early Years chins up!
  17. I have to agree Sunnyday. Desperate times and all that, but I wouldn't want to ask parents in to help.
  18. This will be the difficulty for us if we have to close. We are day care 0 - 5, so have lots of fee paying children as well as funded. I don't know how I would pay staff if we didn't have our fees but at the same time, we never charge when we're closed - snow days, bank holidays etc. It's so worrying, I just want someone to tell me what to do.
  19. I emailed my LA last week and got no reply. On Friday, we got a generic email saying that a lot of people had asked (unsurprisingly!) and that they would come back to us with an answer. I think most settings would be in the same position. I'm very worried about the whole thing, not for my health but the future of my setting, my staff's jobs and my livelihood. Stressful times!
  20. Our 'cut off' dates are 31st August, 31st December and 31st March
  21. Goodness, I remember the Desirable Learning Outcomes and the Barbie Book! And being inspected by the Local Authority instead of the big O!
  22. Happy Birthday to you all! I think it could be said that this forum and all that goes with it has transformed early years practice for many people. Here's to 17 more years!
  23. Wow, I love someone pro-active!
  24. Same, I've never done one. I don't think our LA offer Health and Safety training.
  25. Only just seen this. Did anyone listen to it? I'll catch up on "listen again".
